The-Dream covers the latest issue of Honey Magazine. In the cover story, he talks about fame, his retirement, and life with Christina Milian and daughter Violet.

On Being An Artist Or Writer: “I would probably rather write. It would be at my pace. It would be the more creative things I would do, because you have to understand, there’s a fan base for the type of music I make. But the same people that listen to ‘Purple Kisses,’ ‘Falsetto,’ and ‘Rocking That,’ most of them have no idea that I wrote ‘Umbrella,’ because of me giving up those records. I make that sacrifice.”

On Marriage To Christina: “Still learning. I’m definitely way more mature in this relationship. I’m probably just mature overall because my grandfather raised me. I probably should be more nonchalant. I’m in a place where everything is serious no matter what it is and she with me like, ‘This guy’s crazy.’ Of course I make sense at the end of the day because I’ll explain . As far as money — you got to be careful how you’re spending. Are you thinking about 10 years from now? It’s certain things that become meaningful in a relationship that’s not that real when you’re just boyfriend and girlfriend. The things I think about are a little bit different and those are things she’s learning from me and what I have to do is be more patient.”

Coverlicious: Rihanna Graces Elle Cover, Talks Style

Posted on 10 Jun 2010 at 3:52am

Gracing the cover of the July issue of Elle, Rihanna muses on fashion and has a few things to say about glamorous, often unattainable – ideals of designers.

“I respect designers who aren’t afraid to go outside the box,” she says.

“I went to a Jean Paul Gaultier show, and I saw girls who are thicker than me, beautiful and voluptuous and different ethnicities. That made me so excited,” the singer continued. “I thought, Okay, I can work that, for sure.”

Of course, the beauty is leaving her mark on couture, and not just with the shocking ensembles she wears live. She’s become a high-end icon as well.

“There are definitely fewer black women in the high-fashion industry. One of the things I respected most about Gucci was that they did a print campaign with me.”

“I’m a black girl on a fashion spread for Gucci. That was a big deal.”

Relationships:10 Things Women Wish Men Knew

Relationships:10 Things Women Wish Men Knew

Posted on 29 Mar 2010 at 7:38am

This one is for the brothas…

There are some universal truths that women believe all men should—but don’t—understand. This is a  list of 10 things that women wish men knew and would incorporate into their relationship regularly. There are many more so feel free ladies to add on in the comments. And men, take notes:

1.Listen up!

We like when you listen to us when we are talking. Really listen. Not that pseudo listening. The kind where you are trying to listen to us while playing a video game or watching basketball. Sometimes we want all of your attention. Sometimes, we want you to look at us when we are speaking and digest all of what we are saying. One word at a time. Women often talk about, yes, our “feelings.” This doesn’t mean we’ll break down in hysterics all the time (in fact probably never). It simply means that we like to vent and rant about problems we have and people we hate, etc. Just listen carefully, agree and sympathize with us in the right places, and it least TRY to look like you care. We don’t expect you to solve our problems, which is a typically male-oriented way of thinking. Just talking about our problems us makes us feel better, even if we’re not about to solve them anytime soon. Listen and be supportive, that’s all we ask.

2. Be  romantic once in a while.

It doesn’t have to be much. No women can resits a bit of romance, buying us flowers or a box of Chocolate, waking us up with breakfast in bed or a loving text message or note now and then won’t kill you.

3. We Like When You Tell Us How Pretty We Are

We want to feel beautiful even when our outside appearance does not realistically match the definition. It is still wonderful when the man we love and that loves us, can say with honesty and adoration in his eyes, that despite how crappy we feel, we are still beautiful to him.

3. Don’t try to be a “playa”

Most women hate men who try far too hard to look “cool” or try to pick up as many women as they possibly can. To you it may be a fun ego boost, but to us it’s annoying and disappointing. We don’t want a “playa,” we want a solid and dependable man (with just a hint of mystery) who is faithful and will stick with us no matter what, not hit on anything in a skirt. We prefer to be respected rather than be hit on relentlessly, but of course, don’t treat us like your mother!

4. Money (hardly ever) changes everything

We may expect for you to pay for our dinner or movie ticket on the first date and perhaps after that, but we don’t expect you to fork over loads of cash and face bankruptcy just to take us out on a date. We don’t expect luxury sports cars, diamond rings or gourmet dinners. We are people too who have to work for our money, and we know you’re not made of cash. So don’t feel pressured to spend loads of cash on us. Most women are modern thinkers who don’t mind splitting the cheque or paying for their own dinner if you’re strapped for cash. The point? You don’t have to be loaded to impress us.Don’t apply to Gold-Diggers!!!

5.Not calling when you said you’d call is the kiss of death

Unless you’ve got a really good excuse, and call soon afterwards to apologize, you’ve got problems. A guy who says he’ll call you “tomorrow” and doesn’t call for 6 days or something has already been written off. Sure, we all get busy and have lives, but if you’re really interested in someone but swamped, take 5 minutes, call, let her know you’re slammed at work or whatever, but that you wanted to say hi. She’ll appreciate it.

6. Screw the 3-day rule

The consensus generally is you must wait three days after the first date to call so as not to appear desperate. This is a stupid, petty rule that has no foundation to support itself. Granted, you probably shouldn’t call an hour after the date after the person just gotten home, but you certainly don’t have to wait three days! Calling the next day is perfectly fine, if you got the impression during the date that she was into you and there was some real chemistry there. Chances are, if she agreed to go on a date with you she’ll want to kiss you, hug you, hold hands, and generally hear from you again. There’s nothing desperate about calling the next day. If you wait 3 days you end up wrestling with yourself over whether or not you should call, and we doubt if you were genuinely interested. If you want to call someone, just do it!

7. Don’t lie. EVER.

Nothing is more unappealing or hurtful than a guy who lies. It makes us feel like you don’t respect or care for us enough to tell us the truth. No matter how bad the truth might hurt us, we still want to hear it. We don’t want to be ignorant and live in bliss, we want to know that you can come to us and be honest when things turn sour. Trust, honesty, and respect are key in any successful relationship, and without those elements, it doesn’t matter how hot you are, we WILL leave.

8.  Holidays and anniversaries are a big Deal

They might not seem like a big deal to you, but they are to us.  Even if we say we don’t want something for Valentine’s Day, we want something. It isn’t the “thing” we care about; it is the fact that you are thinking about us. So think about us, dammit. Never forget our Birthday!!!

9. Pay attention.

We like to give clues. “Susie and Bob tried a great new restaurant” means “Why don’t you ever take us anywhere nice?”

10.We’re terrified of meeting your mother

WTF??? Model Does Black Face for French Vogue

WTF??? Model Does Black Face for French Vogue

Posted on 14 Oct 2009 at 5:11am

There’s been a lot of curious “darkening” going on inside the covers of Vogue recently. First, Italian Vogue it was the Rihanna (which was firece, but c’mon). Now, Jezebel Magazine has gotten their hands on some of the scans from French Vogue’s October Issue starring Dutch supermodel Lara Stone.   French Vogue is indulging in the darkening trend by making  Stone a little (or a lot) darker around the edges.

The October Issue of French Vogue, which was shot by Steven Klein and styled by editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld, is in honor of supermodels, yet none of the featured models are women of color.

Hey Klein and Roitfeld, why not use supermodels who are women of color?! What about Jourdan Dunn? She’s a supermodel! Or Chanel Iman? She’s a supermodel too!

“What Klein and Roitfeld should know is that painting white people black for the entertainment of other white people is offensive in ways that stand entirely apart from cultural context. France and Australia may not have the United States’ particular history of minstrel shows as a form of popular entertainment going back to the 19th century, but something about the act of portraying a white woman as black ought to sound an alarm, somewhere.”

WTF, Vogue? Are issue sales really so bad that you pull controversial stunts like this? Isn’t fashion universal? Since when are things like this acceptable?

FAB!!!

Whitney Houston returns to the music scene after a six-year hiatus with the release of her comeback album I Look to You, her sixth full-length studio LP. So far, the album is getting mostly strong reviews from critics, and now the legendary singer is opening about teaming up with her Arista Records mentor Clive Davis once again on the pages of the October issue of Ebony Magazine.

“I shed a lot of stuff, a lot of unnecessary weight in the last three or four years. I left a lot of old luggage behind, and when I did, the blessings just started pouring on me, and the light in my spirit started to lift again,” Whitney tells the magazine. “I’m really humbled, and I thank God that people love me, but I thank God that God loves me. I thank Him for chastening my heart, for never letting go. What I did sometimes … I went off and did my thing, but He never let me go.”

Whitney On Her Retreat From The Public Eye: “I was just ready to lay back and raise my daughter and just watch her grow and nurture her. And my mother’s getting older. I wanted to spend more time with my mom most of my 20s and 30s, was dealing with making records and traveling the world and being this thing — icon, you know — whatever this has turned into.”

Whitney On Her Relationship With Daughter Bobbi Kristina, 16: “She and I are not only mother and daughter, but we’re good friends. I want her to trust me, to be able to trust in me, to know that I’m not going nowhere. If she knows that I’m there for her, she can depend on me. I’m the dependable one; she can depend on her mommy.”
