Looks like Queen Latifah will be coming out of the closet on her new album!!!
Queen L may have ventured into acting a bit, but she did not forget her roots. The rapper-turned-actress is back in the studio, and working with some heavy hitters for the release of her upcoming album, slated for December.
Latifah told Rolling Stone the new project is “banging,” and was crafted with the help of legends LL Cool J and Dr. Dre. She says the two did the majority of the record.
“They pretty much did the whole album,” Latifah said. “My boy Kenny Flav did one track and I think might do two more. Missy Elliott and Swizz Beatz are the only two people I have left. But they’re mixing it right now.”
Dre also helped her write some of the material, as well as Ludacris, but Latifah says she wrote “just about all the rest.”
The multi-talented star also said she considered naming her untitled album the L Word “just to mess with people’s heads,” but decided against it. Over the years, Latifah has endured much speculation about her sexuality because she’s never publicly discussed it. Her role in the 1996 film “Set It Off,” where she plays a lesbian, only ignited the rumors.
“L was gonna stand for love though or LA,” she laughed. “Since people want to play games, I like to jab back sometimes just for fun, but I’m like, ‘Nah, that’s too much energy wasted’.”
The first single is still undecided, but the Queen says it should drop within a month. She finished her parts of the album and left for vacation, while her people closed things out. She admitted that she’s not sure who’s on the album, aside from Busta Rhymes.
“They’ve been waiting to talk to me to surprise me,” Latifah says. “I’m actucally supposed to talk to them and find out who the hell is on that damn album. I’m sure there is no one on there I don’t like.”
